Liquid Culture
Liquid culture is a great tool to use when you are ready to start working more intimately with mushroom mycelium and cultures. Liquid culture can be used to produce your own grain spawn, inoculate additional quantities of liquid medium, or expanded onto agar plates.
Our liquid cultures come directly from the species and strains that are featured in our grow kits and spawn, and include 10ml of liquid mycelium in a sterile syringe. A sterile needle can be included for no extra charge if requested. For best results, shake well before use to evenly distribute the mycelium.
Liquid culture is mushroom mycelium that is grown within a sterilized, nutritious liquid medium. This allows the mycelium to grow in a 3-dimensional environment and expand much faster than it would when cultivated on a 2-dimensional surface.
Our liquid culture medium is comprised of dextrose, light malt extract, soy peptone and filtered water. Syringes are best stored in the dark, and under refridgeration, when not in use. If stored for some time, the mycelium may form a dense clump at the bottom of the syringe, so be sure to shake well before use.
If stored in a dark, clean and preferably chilled (but not freezing) environment, liquid culture syringes can remain viable for over a year, but generally perform best when used shortly after they are received.
